WW2 USAAF Ninth Air Force

Created in August 1941 as V Air Support Command, it was redesignated the Ninth Air Force in April 1942.  The Ninth took part in the Allied invasion of Italy and operations across Egypt and Libya.  And in October 1943, moved to England in preparation for the D-Day assault on the beaches of Normandy.  

The Ninth was inactivated in December 1945.
