No amount of networking, smooth-talking, or wealth will get you membership.

And did I mention it has only two members?

During the Great War, Hispano-Suiza built over 50,000 aircraft engines, but when war ended in 1918, they returned to car production.    Sadly Guynemer didn’t see the war end as he was killed during combat over Poelcapelle in Belgium, in September 1917.

On February 22nd, 1944, eight-year-old Tony Foulds was playing football with friends in Endcliffe Park, Sheffield when they heard a plane approaching low.  The crew spotted the wide-open area of Endcliffe Park. But as they approached for an emergency landing, realized there were children scattered across the field.

By the time U-570 approached Icelandic waters, they had been battling through very rough seas for several days.  Many of the crew were suffering severe seasickness. And desperate to give his crew some relief, the inexperienced captain decided to ignore his orders, and surface.

In April 1916 the Lafayette Escadrille – led by French Lt. Colonel Georges Thenault – was formed.

In the hours leading up to D-Day, a Stars and Stripes newspaper photo-journalist took a picture of an odd group of paratroopers putting war paint on their faces. With their heads shaved into Mohawks. They were an unknown unit.

For some, a skull means fear; fear of death, fear of mortality, darkness and evil.
For others; fear of nothing, live for the moment, make a statement.

The work of William Tutte and the Lorenz code breakers shortened the Second World War by at least two years. And saved thousands of lives across Europe.

Commando Kieffer was the idea of Philippe Kieffer, a former banker.  After seeing British Commandos in action in 1942, he persuaded the Brits to let him form an elite French commando unit - Fusiliers-Marins Commandos to fight alongside them on D-Day.
