Squadron Leader Rossi entered the Navy in 1939 but in 1941 he resigned his Navy commission to join the American Volunteer Group.
Rossi was a member of the Flying Tigers' First Pursuit Squadron (Adam and Eve) of the AVG, under the command of General Claire Chennault, . When the "Flying Tigers" were disbanded in 1942, he joined the China National Aviation Corporation, flying supplies from India to China. By the time the war was over he had flown more than 735 trips across "the Hump."
After the war, Rossi continued flying for Chennault’s China Air Transport line. And later for the Flying Tiger Airline as co-founder and pilot. For a time he was president of the Flying Tigers Association-AVG.
He was an Ace with 6 aerial combat victories and received many awards during his military career.
