VF-17 Fighter Squadron "Jolly Rogers"
The VF-17 were the most successful and record-breaking of the US Navy Squadrons in WW2.
Formed in January 1943 Fighting Squadron 17 was the first unit to fly the latest fighter, the Vought F4U Corsair. And operating from land bases in the Solomon Islands, they shot down 154 Japanese aircraft in 76 days of combat.
They were deactivated in March 1944
